WIZARDRY WITH COMPRESSION, MUSIC WITH TEETH

The Mythology

Born and raised in the heart and soul of an Albertan county called Parkland, David Ziehr’s musical journey started in the womb at a Headstones concert. Bangin’, bumpin’, and buzzin’ from the get go, it’s fair to say that he had music coursing through his veins at birth.

Upon completing high school, David’s musical passion, drive, and a sense of adventure drove him straight over the Rockies to the bountiful lands of Vancouver, B.C. where he immediately dove into his audio studies at Nimbus School of Recording & Media.

After completing his education, David immediately started echoing at the plant, where he continued honing his engineering and producing skills. Mentoring under Ryan Worsley and Matt Di Pomponio, David’s skills soon became even more poppin’ and supreme - earning him the titular role of Head Engineer at Echoplant Recording Studios until his departure in 2026.

In 2024 David was nominated for the Audio Engineering Award of the Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards. David’s client Sadé Awele was also nominated and won R&B artist of the year at the Western Canadian Music Awards the album they both co-produced.

He followed this by consecutively being nominated for Producer of the year in 2025 and 2026.

David has continued to support all sorts of diverse up-and-coming artists, and has developed a knack for finding their sound and driving it home. He has found a way to make all songs on the album sing; distancing himself from the routine success of promoted singles. With David, you can expect snowballing success and an increase of listeners with every song you release.

David is a studio bop through and through, always looking to throw down and make a dream come true.

AND PROOF OF MAGIC

A man with glasses, a beard, and a hoodie with a Jesus print, smiling and holding a small green object, sitting at a workstation with electronic equipment and musical instruments in a recording studio. There are other people and equipment in the background.

“Having David behind the recording desk is quite literally my only requirement for being in the studio. He has a warm and fun presence that makes spending hundreds of hours in the studio with him an absolute joy, but he is also a complete master at his craft. His ability to capture and create sound is unrivalled by anyone I’ve worked with.”

“Bring him the right ingredients, just stand back, and let him work his magic.”

AYLA TESLER-MABE

“The only person I trust to take my recordings above and beyond is David. I’ve worked with many people in many studios and I’ve never encountered an engineer who cares so deeply about the quality of a recording. Whether it’s his knowledge of microphones, room sounds, which piece of outboard gear to use, which guitar pedal for an alternate track, or even playing guitar or other instruments when needed; David is the engineer that every artist needs.”

JAKE HOPE

“His mixing quality was top-tier and truly professional—an integral part of what helped me win the WCMA R&B Artist of the Year. David is not only diligent and detail-oriented, but he also pushed me beyond my limits to achieve the strongest possible sound. His ability to balance high standards with openness to my creative input made our collaboration seamless, especially as we co-produced several tracks on the project.”
